Surrogacy Requirements: Passing FDA screening for communicable diseases for donated ovum and sperm whether from parents, anonymous or known donors.
Surrogacy: Can their be a genetic relationship between parent and child? Frequently, for low motility patients IVF clinics use ICSI to fertilize eggs that normally would not fertilize. For mothers that have ovaries but not uterus’ their eggs can be retrieved and carried in a gestational surrogate. Also, if there are female relatives between the ages of 18-29 they can donate their ovum to establish a genetic bond. For DQ Alpha/HLA matched parents a gestational surrogate can be found that is not a DQ Alpha/HLA match. Also, anonymous ovum and sperm donors can be matched allowing parents to have children with similar ethnic backgrounds.
Surrogacy Costs: Approximately $35,000 - $100,000. Add on clinic cost for IVF and that is approximately $20,000 per fresh cycle and $3500 per frozen cycle.
